Poster Presentation (Visual display with TWO 60 minute discussion sessions):
This is a presentation of research or project that uses exhibits to communicate
its purpose and outcomes. Posters will be displayed throughout the Forum and the
presenter (s) must be available during two scheduled 60 minute periods to discuss
the work and answer questions. A 6 ft. by 4 ft. cork board will be provided for
display and a brief handout should be available. Tips for developing poster presentations
are available at: www.airweb.org/PastForums
Pre-Forum Workshop (Half-day: 3 hour period; Full-day: 6 hour period):
A presentation that conveys skills and techniques and/or increases awareness of
issues and problems in institutional research through hands-on, interactive, instructional
exercises, including small group activities and/or in-depth discussion. Presenters
should provide handouts, manuals, and other materials that support or summarize
workshop content. Workshops are offered on the Saturday and Sunday preceding the
Forum, and presenters receive a modest honorarium.
Scholarly Paper Session (40 minute period): This is a presentation accompanied
by a written paper explaining the issues, methodologies, and outcomes of a single
topic. The distribution of a completed paper via handout, electronic or other means
is expected from this type of session. A scholarly paper may report
the results of a research study, describe a methodological IR application, or explore
a theoretical construct. The proposal should include a concise statement of the
central problem, prior research and related literature, methodology and data sources,
findings, conclusions, and implications for institutional research. While the findings
and conclusions may not be known at the time the proposal is submitted, the research
or project must be underway with completion expected in advance of the Forum.
Table Topic Discussion (40-minute period): An informal, highly interactive
discussion of a current topic or issue in the field. The presenter provides focus
to the conversation by using 5 discussion questions designed to encourage participants
to contribute their ideas and relevant experiences. Handouts listing resources or
examples are encouraged.
